Awkwafina started out as an American musician and rapper making sly songs that addressed issues such as racial and sexuality with a humorous twist. Prior to her move to Hollywood her career, she was able to perform a variety of tracks. Nora Lum began her musical career as a musician on the trumpet. Her birthplace was Forest Hills Queens, she was the daughter of Chinese immigrants and Koreans. She also received classical and jazz training later becoming a hip-hop teenager. While in college, she took classes in journalism and women's studies. In addition, she spent an hour studying Mandarin in Beijing.
